Connection Instructions

Currently, investment accounts are discoverable via Plaid. Therefore, investment accounts can be added to Sequence via Plaid, resulting in the visibility of account balances. However, no routing or account numbers are available for J.P. Morgan Wealth Management's investment accounts, which means you cannot directly route to investment accounts at J.P. Morgan Wealth Management.

Below, two methods are detailed for routing money to J.P. Morgan Wealth Management:

  1. In the pull method, funds are routed to a pod in Sequence, and an EFT from the pod to J.P. Morgan Wealth Management is made at J.P. Morgan.
  2. In the push method, funds are routed to a Chase depository account in Sequence, and a transfer is executed at Chase from the depository account to the investment account.

The Push Method: Using Sequence to route money to Chase checking/savings

We’ll use Sequence to route money to a Chase savings/checking account in this method. Once funds are inside a Chase banking account, we will set up an automated transfer to a Chase Investment account. There is only one option for automating transfers inside the Chase ecosystem.

The below method has three overall tasks:

  1. Add your Chase checking/savings account to your Sequence money map.
  2. Create rules in Sequence to route money to Chase.
  3. Automate routing of funds inside the Chase ecosystem.

Task 1: Add your Chase depository account to Sequence

You may skip this task if your Chase depository account is already added to Sequence.

In the example below, we will add a Chase checking account.

  1. Click this link to navigate to the Sequence login page. Complete the login process.

  2. On the bottom center of your money map, click the Add Account button.

  3. Select the Beneficiary and then click on “Depository account.”

  4. Chase should appear as selectable by default. Click Chase.

  5. You should now be in a Finicity workflow. Click the Next button.

  6. Continue working through the Finicity workflow.

  7. When prompted, sign in using your Chase credentials. Verify your identity as necessary.

  8. You should reach a point where your Chase bank accounts are displayed. Select the account(s) you would like to connect.

  9. Click Continue and let Finicity do its connection magic 🪄.

Task 2: Create rule(s) in Sequence

In this task, we will create an example rule using Sequence. This example uses a simple port-to-checking account rule. Rules can also be created to run from a pod or external account. Your rule(s) will be unique to your financial goals.

  1. Ensure you have a port and your desired Chase bank account included in your Sequence money map.

  2. Click on your port and drag a line from the plus sign (+) at the bottom of the port node to your Chase account node. This will trigger the rule workflow.

  3. In this example, we will select a “Triggered by incoming funds rule.”

  4. The “Incoming funds rule” details view will slide out from the side of your screen.

  5. This example does not employ any condition(s). You may add them to your rule as you see fit.

  6. ☢️The action on this rule is set to Transfer percentage of incoming funds of 10% to Chase checking. Again, the rules you choose may be different in order to meet your financial goals.

  7. Click the Save button to save the rule to your Sequence money map.

Task 3: Automate in the Chase ecosystem

There is one way to automate the movement of funds inside the Chase financial ecosystem. Chase’s scheduled transfers will always be either one-time transfers or frequency-based (monthly on a given day of the month). In this how-to guide, we will demo the one-time version.

Below, we detail two methods of implementation:

  • Chase Checking & Chase Investments via desktop browser apps

    1. Use your preferred browser to log in to Chase.

    2. You should be on the Accounts screen.

    3. On the top navbar, navigate to “Pay & transfer | Transfer Money | Schedule transfer.”

    4. In the “Transfer from” field, select your Chase Checking account.

    5. Select your investment account in the “Transfer to” field.

    6. Specify the amount you wish to transfer in the Amount field and adjust the date in the “Send on” field if necessary.

🗒️ An optional note of up to 32 characters can be entered in the “Note to self” field.

⏰ If you wish to make this a repeating transfer, such as monthly or weekly, set the “Set up repeating transfers” switch to the on position and set your frequency options.

    7. Click the Next button.

    8. Review your selected options. If everything is correct, click the blue “Transfer money” (or “Set up repeating transfers”) button.

✅ This should complete Task 3 for a Chase Investment account.

  • Chase Checking & Chase Investments via the Chase mobile app

📱 While there are multiple paths to completing this task, we’ve tried to provide the method with the least taps and screens.

    1. On your mobile device, open the Chase App and log in.

    2. You should be on the Accounts screen.

    3. On the lower navbar, tap on “Pay & transfer.”

    4. On the “Pay & transfer” screen, tap on Transfers icon.

    5. From the menu that appears, tap on “Brokerage transfers.”

    6. In the “Transfer from” field, select your Chase checking account.

    7. Select your investment account in the “Transfer to” field.

    8. Specify the amount you wish to transfer in the Amount field and adjust the date in the “Transfer date” field if necessary.

🗒️ An optional note of up to 32 characters can be entered in the “Note to self” field.

⏰ If you wish to make this a repeating transfer, such as monthly or weekly, set the “Set up repeating transfers” switch to the on position and set your frequency options.

    9. Click the Next button.

    10. Review your selected options. If everything is correct, click the blue “Transfer money” (or “Set up repeating transfers”) button.

✅ This should complete Task 3 for an Active Sofi Invest account.

Testing

If you would like to test your connection, you can go to your Sequence Activity Log and run a manual transfer by clicking on the “Transfer Manually” button located in the upper right of the Activity Log screen.

⚡ For faster manual transfers use money already in a pod. Transfers from pods to external accounts are 2x faster than transfers from external accounts to external accounts.
